The 10 cities according to a survey are biggest in Africa and accommodates a whooping 3.8 million people.

The survey conducted by Social Africa, a Non governmental organization, NGO indicated that Nigeria and Kenya have three each while South Africa has two.

On the other hand Angola and Ghana boast of only one each.

They have a combined three million and eighty thousand people crammed in differing swaths of land infested with gabbage, stagnant water and disease in the midst of rundown makeshift homes.

The Kibera slump in Kenya has an estimated population of 700,000 followed by Mathare with 500,000 and Makuru Kwa Njenga also in Kenya with 100,000 inhabitants.

Ajegunle and Shomolu, both in Lagos Nigeria, follow closely with 500,000 and 400,000 respectively while Makoko also in Lagos has 300,000 inhabitants.

South Africa has Khayelitsha with 400,000 and Alexandra with 200,000. Angola has 400,000 Inhabitants living in its slum cited at Cazenga.

Coming last in the African slums is Ghana cited at Agbogbloshie. It has an inhabitant population of only 80,000.

On regional basis West Africa has highest concentration of slums in five cities that serve as either the countries’ capitals or commercial hubs. The five slums have a combined population of 1,280,000 people.

Central Africa has only Kenya with a concentration of slum populations in three cities with a total inhabitants of 1,300,000.

Southern Africa region has Angola and South Africa with three slum cities made up of a population of 600,000 inhabitants.
