NOA Kebbi Calls for Landfills, Emphasizes Hygiene in Malaria Fight

Commomerating global World Malaria Day 2025, “underscoring the vital link between environmental hygiene and the fight against the persistent disease”, the Kebbi State directorate of the National Orientation Agency, NOA has advised on the need for sustainable efforts to rid the state of malaria scourge.

At a press briefing organized by the Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge, the State Director of the NOA, Mallam Nasir Karofi, urged all citizens to prioritize environmental sanitation as a cornerstone of malaria prevention.

According to the Assistant Director/Head Media and Communication, Larai Saminu Nazo in a statement she released in Birnin Kebbi penultimate Wednesday, Karofi emphasized the clear connection between stagnant water, a breeding ground for malaria-carrying mosquitoes, and inadequate waste management practices.

Mallam Karofi also appealed to the Kebbi State Government to establish “a well-planned landfill site to address the growing challenges of refuse collection, particularly within the state capital”.

“Beyond the evident improvement in efficient waste evacuation” he emphasized “is a properly managed landfill (that) offers substantial opportunities for job creation and economic empowerment through sorting, recycling, and controlled incineration,” he said.

Mallam Karofi stressed the unwavering commitment of the NOA to mobilizing Nigerians reminiscent of the “glorious days” of the War Against Indiscipline and Corruption (WAI-C) and the WAI brigade”, towards environmental cleanliness for the betterment of both health and economic well-being.

He announced that a Citizens Brigade, championed by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu shall be deployed to compliment “the proactive measures undertaken by the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, in prioritizing street cleaning and the clearing of drainages and culverts across the state capital and major towns”, he added.
