Kaduna Law Makers Begin Promotion of Renewable Energy to Fight Insecurity

In a Proactive Move Legislators Begin Solar-powered Electricity Lights-Up of Kaduna

Interventions by legislators of Kaduna State in pursuit of their constituency projects has began to gather momentum and possibly impact on the communities.

Generally and for the moment, it is solar-powered electricity across wards and local government areas, in a move observers say is a way of tackling insecurity in neighborhoods.

In otherwise dark roads and alleyways that have been the nests of knife wielding young urchins who snatch ladies handbags and phones, as well as house break-ins, the illumination from the solar powered street lights may reduce the menace or totally bring them to an end

From neighboring Igabi Local Government Area to Kaduna North and South, representives in both Houses of the National Assembly and to their counterparts in the state legislature, the pad is the same: make Kaduna safer at night for everyone.

These constituency projects, environment watch gathers is across party lines and aimed at improving security and the social lives of constituents.

Launching his intervention earlier this week, Nazir Sanusi Abubakar said in a Facebook post that his team are working hard to deliver as soon as practicable bearing in mind the many reported cases of ladies’ handbag snatching as well as phones and money from unsuspecting citizens rushing to reach their homes.

He added that “We have successfully concluded the first phase of the solar streetlight installation project totalling 80 solar streetlights so far.”

These number he said “have been installed across Kawo constituency, covering Kawo, Badarawa, and Unguwan Dosa wards”.

The lawmaker revealed further that the “second phase of this project will extend to Unguwan Kanawa, Hayin Banki, and Unguwan Shanu and Abakawa wards” as well.

Meanwhile, similar efforts are being undertaken by legislators and a senator, Lawal Adamu, representng local governments of Igabi, Kaduna South, Kaduna North, Chikun, Lere, Birnin-Gwari and Kajuru.

Feelers are that they all want to improve the economic growth of these local governments by shoring up the fortunes of small and medium enterprises.

The initiative, Sanusi and others are saying are aimed at “improving the quality of life, especially in the rural settlements, and empowered many people.”

It is also to ensure a brighter future for all Sanusi concluded.
