Nigerian Army Destroys 27 Illegal Refining Sites, Confiscates 100,000 Litres of Stolen Crude
Spokesperson of the 6th Division, Lt. Col Jonah Danjuma said in a statement on Wednesday that troops have been conducting extensive operations, traversing the length and breadth of the operational landscape with remarkable successes.
The operations, he said, have destroyed illegal refining sites, Arrests and confiscated stolen products. Notably, the operation carried out by troops of 29 Battalion during which 23 newly established illegal refining sites were destroyed including two storage reservoirs containing over 80,000 litres of stolen crude.
Three vehicles loaded with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil estimated to be over 8000 litres were also confiscated by troops of the 16 Brigade, in conjunction with other security agencies along with over four illegal refining sites with three metal drums and pits containing stolen crude estimated to be over 6000 litres in Cowthorne Channel II, Degema Local Government Area.
The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has commended the troops for their efforts and charged them to ensure the integrity of the pipelines is maintained, guaranteeing seamless oil production.
He also urged critical stakeholders, particularly host communities, to provide credible intelligence on criminal activities to security agencies.
