By Kabir Dan Katsina, Gamzaki

Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds, Shina Oyedeji has said the National Assembly will do everything humanly possible to support Kebbi State to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.

Oyedeji made this known at the Government House Birnin Kebbi when he led members of his committee on a courtesy visit to Governor, Nasir Idris lamenting that a lot of negative impacts of climate change were now more prevalent in Nigeria as in other parts of the world.

He further explained that climate is more evident in global warming, food and other natural disasters, acknowledging however that Nigeria is doing a lot to stem the tide of the ecological scourge.

The deputy chairman said that the committee attaches greater importance to Kebbi State because it was the first to be visited by the committee, saying, “that is why it is the first state we are visiting since our inauguration in November.”

Oyedeji called on the state government to share with the committee the challenges being faced by Kebbi on ecology and utilisation of the ecological funds.

Responding, Governor Nasir Idris said Kebbi State Government has been up and doing in the implementation of projects under the mandate of the fund, but would require additional intervention to expand the horizon of the programme.

The Governor pointed out that In Kebbi State there was serious negative impact of ecological problem saying by the time we go round you will see some of the areas negatively impacted by the problem  and what we have done.
