Gov Uba Sani Is Committed To Addressing Climate Change, His Adviser Says

He said Governor Governor Sani was the first in Northern Nigeria to create an office of a special assistant on climate change to generate awareness and to effectively advised on how to address the ensuing challenges.

Amoke disclosed this at a roundtable with journalists in Kaduna revealing that the state was represented at the COP28 conference in Dubai and was able to learn and benefit alot from the conference.

As part of the resolutions of the COP28, Nigeria pledged to reduce gas emissions from fossil fuels by emphasizing the use of renewable energy and discourage indiscriminate felling of trees through an aggressive campaign for more efficient and effective tree planting.

In this vein, he said Kaduna State stands to benefit from funds raised by the countries in the northern hemisphere who emit more than 90 per cent of the gas that threatens the climate.

The funds would enable nations and sub nations to engage in activities that would reduce gas emissions and mitigate some of the attendant effects.

Currently, he further disclosed, a bill on climate change is before the Kaduna State House of Assembly to provide legal framework for climate change activities in the state.

The bill, when passed into law will provide opportunities for stakeholders to key into climate change programmes.

He therefore urged the public to show interest and concern on climate change as it is global matter that affects all.
