Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris says his administration would support the establishment of solar power plants and generation in the state in view of the erratic power supply from the national grid.
He stated this when he recieved in audience the CEO of Fadel International Holding Group, Mr. Mike Bako who called on him at Government House, Birnin Kebbi Thursday.
According to Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to Kebbi State Governor on Media and Publicity, Governor Idris had intimated his visitor that Kebbi State has “been having running battles with electricity (supply) problem in the state”, adding that “even though it is not peculiar to Kebbi State alone being a national problem”, resorting to renewable energy as an alternative would be welcomed by his administration.
He said provision of social and basic aminities including electricity were part of his campaign promises to the people of the state and therefore would support the establishment of renewable energy sources including solar powered electricity in the state.
Governor Idris stressed the importance of having steady power supply to the people of the state particularly for petty businesses to thrive.
The governor noted with satisfaction that the facilitator of the project had earlier said the project would be funded by the Chinese Government, therefore acknowledging that: “if China says it is going to fund a project, it will fund it 100 per cent.”
Idris assured the company that the state government would create the enabling environment for it to conveniently carry out the project for the benefit of the state assuring that with abundant sunlight, the key component of the proposed project, mounting greater number of solar panels would come easy, he said.
Earlier, Mr Mike Bako, had informed the governor that Padel Holding is an international company with “international ideas” thus into different businesses ranging from solid minerals prospecting including Lithium, a major component in the production of solar power panels.
