According to a statement penultimate Saturday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Environment, Farouk Akintunde, ordered that the company be sealed during an enforcement tour, adding that the factory’s operations endangers the lives of residents.
The tyre-recycling plant, Gande Limited located in Siun of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, has been notorious for emitting hazardous gas and carbon monoxide.
“The lives of their host community should be a major priority to them as they need to desist from practices that can be injurious to people’s health and affect businesses,” Akintunde said as the major reason behind the sealing.
Also speaking during the sealing exercise, the Director of Special Duties and Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment, Tunji Egbemuyiwa, urged residents to always report any environmental infractions within their localities to the appropriate quarters to avert environmental disasters.
It’s encouraging that the government is paying attention to pollutants in the environment.
We are also glad to note that governments from states to Federal are more proactive to the issues of the environment never seen before. We hope the citizenry will compliment their efforts to protect the environment.
