Illegal mining: Taskforce impounds 21 trucks of coal

A Joint Task Force set up by the Kogi State Government has impounded 21 trucks of coal, amounting to 945 tons. This is in an effort to curb unlicensed and illegal coal miners in a bid to defeat illegal mining in the state.

Federal High Court presided over by Hon. Justice Abdul Dogo has since granted an interim forfeiture order for the consignment to Federal Government of Nigeria.

The miners association of Nigeria who showed appreciation for the effort to curb illegal mining across Nigeria said they have thrown their weight behind the Kogi State government’s and security agencies’ in synergizing effort in tackling economic sabotage in the mining sector.

The 24 recognized licensed mining companies who visited Kogi State to appreciate the State Government and Security Agencies for this unprecedented containment action made inputs to improve upon the operations of the Joint Taskforce.

The association further commended the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello for taking up the fight against  economic saboteurs who have the tendency to breed terrorism with its negative impact on the economy and security of the country.

They also hoped that the fight will be sustained to the full eradication of illegal mining activities not only in the coal mining sector but in all aspects of mining in Nigeria.
